Lower School Music Educator and Chorus Director

Our school seeks applications for a Lower School Music Educator and Chorus Director (for grades 2-5) for the 2014-2015 school year.
Prepares and implements sequential music lessons for grades 2-5, including vocal instruction, training with classroom instruments, and direction of the 2nd/3rd and 4th/5th grade choruses
Organizes performances for Grandfriends’ Day, Winter Sharing, and spring Art-Music Nights
Plans and implements Sing-a-longs for grades K-2 and 3-5
Works closely with homeroom teachers, learning support staff, and administrators to respond to individual children’s needs
Works with other fine arts teachers to plan events, and to document and align curriculum
Maintains music and instruments in classroom
Attends orientation meetings, all-school professional development events, grade-appropriate faculty meetings, curriculum nights, faculty work days, grade- specific Art/ Music nights, and all other meetings required by the school
Communicates with parents through newsletters, and responds to parent concerns by email or phone in a timely manner
Completes conferences and student reports in a timely, thorough, professional manner
Demonstrates regular professional growth through identifying goals and participating in professional development activities
Supports all phases of school life - for example, attends fine arts events and some other extra-curricular events; shares in the physical care of the school (making sure that classrooms and other spaces are kept hygienic and safe for students); participates as appropriate in committee work, and /or joins a team of peers giving feedback to second-year teachers
Follows through on recess and curbside responsibilities, on a rotating basis
Supports fellow members of the faculty, administration, and staff in the spirit of collegiality and mutual respect
Contributes to the general welfare of the school and its students
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Elementary Music (or a related field) from an accredited school, good teaching skills, and an excellent character. Previous lead teacher experience is strongly preferred.
Piano skills and a good working knowledge of a variety of music styles, repertoire, and teaching methodologies are necessary. Ability to choreograph movement and expertise in Orff Schulwerk are advantages. The ability to be a collaborative and positive member of a faculty is required.
