FEATURED: Matt Volpe, Creative Director, Producer, Editor

Here at Media Match we're consistently blown away by the wealth of skilled and experienced people who use the service every day, so we thought it was high time we turned the spotlight on our members to showcase some of the great talent we have on the site.

This week we're featuring Creative Director, Writer, Producer and Editor Matt Volpe who works between New York and Los Angeles.  We ask Matt what inspired him to get into the industry, career highlights and what advice he would give those looking to pursue a career in TV and Film.

1) What inspired you to want to work in the film/tv industry?

The movie JAWS inspired from a young age to embark a career in film and TV - by way of master storytelling, expert visuals and immense acting.  I was inspired to tell stories and create from endless screenings of JAWS. I really owe it all to that film (and book).

2) How did you go about getting your foot in the door?

I applied for an internship at HBO’s Inside the NFL - I was fortunate enough to get it- worked very hard at it while on the show’s set as a PA.   But when I graduated college and my internship was over, I needed to work. Once I got a taste of HBO from my internship I decided to set my sights on landing a job there. I took a job as a Paralegal’s assistant in the Business Affair’s department of HBO and thought that would be my way into getting a job in the creative marketing or productions departments of HBO.  My plan worked and I moved into Creative Services assisting a Creative Director and my career in TV marketing and promotion took off.

3) What show/film had the most impact on you?

Repeat. JAWS. without a doubt, the single most inspiring film to me.

4) Career highlight so far?

Career highlight so far has been running my own freelance business as an in demand Senior Level Preditor (Writer/Producer/Editor) - it has allowed me to work on various projects and be the most creative I have ever been in my career.

5) Best bit of advice for those looking to break into the industry and what to expect?

Be yourself, be true to yourself.  Go with what you are passionate about and what gets you out of bed in the morning. There will be obstacles and challenging people along the way, but set your sights on what you love to do and keep at it. Stay humble, kind and have integrity.

6) What projects are you working on at the moment?

Currently in between projects at the moment, but recently finished working with SYFY on their series launch for INCORPORATED and also helping to launch FYI’s KISS BANG LOVE.
