About the Job
Position Objective:
To create a window into the daily activities and campaigns of the organization through blogs
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Collect and determine the relevance of information about our actions and other interesting animal and celebrity news on a daily basis with an eye for what story angles would make the most compelling content for our blogs
• Set and maintain the blog schedule, assign and route blog text, and post blog content in a timely manner
• Manage the general aesthetics of the blogs, in particular the images
• Use discretion and judgment to approve, delete, and route comments on blogs
• Review and edit text from blog writers
• Liaise with Marketing Department in order to set up blog contests with animal-friendly companies
• Track and analyze Web traffic, coverage from other blogs, and user interactivity with the goal of making strategic changes in order to maximize success
• Create and maintain relationships with other bloggers and pitch relevant content about the organizaton to them
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
• College degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of one year of professional writing experience, including writing for blogs, newspapers, magazines, or other publications
• Demonstrated thorough knowledge of the blogosphere
• Proven Web writing experience and thorough knowledge of search engine optimization
• Demonstrated thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns
• Proven ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proven excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills
• Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
