This fascinating map has recently turned up on the internet, showing California locations for Paramount Studio filmings of far-off places.
I do remember a scene from "Some Like it Hot" when they were supposed to be thousands of miles away but it was actually Coronado Island near San Diego (I'd visited there a few months prior to watching the film).
I also heard that the variety of California landscape is part of the reason filming in Hollywood became so popular - does anyone know anything more on this?
