Job Title: Sr. Netezza Database Administrator Division/Dept.: IT/EIS General Summary Analyzes, designs, maintains, supports, implements and troubleshoots Netezza database environments.
Responsible for overall database design, implementation and production support. Responsibilities 1. Design and Architecture * Participate in projects as the database resource. * Develop project estimates for database activities. * Perform database modeling and logical and physical design. * Develop database design documentation such as data decompositions and data flow diagrams. * Perform database, application and system architecture design. * Participate as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required for design reviews and technology and tool selection. * Keep current on database systems and features, 3rd party tools, and industry standards. 2. Maintenance * Install and configure database software. * Plan, schedule and perform database maintenance, including DBMS upgrades and patch installation. * Perform capacity planning. * Create and execute scripts for various database maintenance activities. * Provide guidelines for development and production. * Perform database tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing performance of the databases. * Adhere to departmental standards and methodologies. 3. Archival, Backup and Recovery * Develop archival, backup and recovery strategy. * Plan, perform and monitor database backups. *Perform database recoveries. 4. Security * Maintain and monitor database/platform security. 5. Production Support * Provide 24x7 on call production support. * Serves as escalation point for database issues. 6. Administration * Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis. *Adheres to and enforces department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices. 8. Other Duties As Required
Education: * Bachelor's degree
Knowledge: * Excellent technical knowledge of database, database software and related technologies. * Strong knowledge of personal computing hardware, software and database applications. Skills: * Excellent diagnostic problem solving and solution development capabilities. * Excellent resolution management skills. * Strong project coordination skills. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * Strong analytical skills. Experience: * Minimum 5 years as DBA and 2 years as Netezza DBA.
