Get rolling and rolling.

The idea of incorporating biking into film works and events has been touched on before here at Media Match, and it is one that intrigues and inspires us. For those of you who thrive on tight deadlines, we have just found out about this interesting competition, but your entries need to be submitted within the next nine days: the City of Chicago is hosting a public service announcement (PSA) video contest in association with Bicycle Film Festival Chicago, Goose Island, The Chainlink, Active Transport Alliance, and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. The call for entries is soon to close (submissions must be uploaded by 11:59pm (Central) on Sunday May 20th 2012), but you can still put something together and enter to win some great prizes and exposure.

The contest is in part to celebrate Bike Chicago 2012 (a series of events throughout the summer) and also timed around Bike To Work Week (June 11 through June 15). Video finalists will be screened at the Bike Chicago Movie in Millennium Park on Tuesday, June 12 and the winners will be announced at the City of Chicago’s Bike Rally on Friday, June 15. Other bike-related prizes include a Trek commuter bike courtesy of Goose Island, a pair of Chicago Bicycle Film Festival passes and many other goodies from sponsoring companies.

Open Youtube competition for filmmakers

Your Film Festival is the latest collaboration from Youtube and Scott Free (the film and TV production company formed by brothers Ridley and Tony Scott), following their critically acclaimed documentary Life In A Day.

This time around, they invite content creators worldwide to submit their best 15 minute short stories, in any genre or style, and of any format – short film, web-series episode, TV pilot or other video pieces. The competition is free to enter, and will offer the storytellers a chance to reach a wider audience and ultimately, win a life-changing prize; a $500,000 production grant, plus a development deal with Scott Free Productions.

“Short filmmaking is exactly where I started my career 50 years ago, so to be helping new filmmakers find an entry point like this into the industry is fantastic,” says Ridley Scott. “It’s great to be partnering with YouTube again for this global search for the next generation of exciting filmmakers.”

Submissions are judged by Scott Free and thinned down to 50 semi-finalists, after which the public voting opens, further whittling the pile down to ten finalists. Those finalists then have the luxury and prestige of traveling to Italy to watch their work being screened at the 69th Venice International Film Festival in August. Following that, a special film industry jury will name the grand prize winner.

You have until March 31st to submit your video, so we encourage all Media Match filmmakers, producers, directors and motion graphic artists to get involved and give it a shot! Feel free to post your entries below and we will check them out and vote for who we like too!

Good Luck!

The project “Jump” is focusing on mapped video projection with a strict reference to architectural structure. The house front has been rebuilt in a studio setting with a proportion of 1:1,4. The setup becomes a stage for artists and performers. Later the captured video content is projected on the building.

The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture – the theoretic conception and visual pattern of the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers “Galerie der Gegenwart”. Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement. A situation of reflexivity evolves – describing the constitution and spacious perception of this location by means of the building itself.
