67th Cannes Film Festival Adds Stars to Competition JuryPosted on April 28th, 2014 by Anna in Film Festivals
The Cannes Film Festival has unveiled a star-studded lineup for its 67th year, with a team of jurors joining Palme d’Or-winning director Jane Campion to comprise director Sofia Coppola, actor Willem Dafoe, French actress Carole Bouquet, South Korean actress Do-yeon Jeon, Iranian actress Leila Hatami, actor Gael Garcia Bernal, Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn and last year’s best screenplay winner, Chinese director Zhangke Jia.
Coppola and Winding Refn both make return appearances this year, with Winding Refn taking home the best director prize for Drive in 2011, and Oscar-winner Coppola making her debut in 1999 with The Virgin Suicides in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar.
Of the other jurors, Jia won best screenplay at last year’s festival with A Touch of Sin and Jeon won the Cannes best actress prize for her role in Chang-dong Lee’s Secret Sunshine in 2007.
Willem Dafoe also returns to Cannes, having appeared at the festival in 2009 with Lars von Trier’s controversial Antichrist.
Festival organisers said, “Cannes has always sought to adopt a universal and international approach, and in tune with this tradition, Campion will be surrounded by eight luminaries of world cinema, from China, Korea, Denmark, Iran, the United States, France and Mexico.”
