Mind In Cambridgeshire
1/2008 - 1/2010
At Hunts Mind I formed an integral part of the team who were in charge of the day-to-day management of mental health services. We acted as the first point of contact for vulnerable members of society seeking the organisations' help and our main focus was on being as inclusive and open minded as possible. Throughout my time, we spear headed a number of campaigns which had a particular focus (whether that be mental health support through arts, music or the environment). On some occasions I was required to act as a project work, which involved acting as a personal contact for our clients. At other times I acted as a facilitator and supervised our contract workers. During my time there, I also co-ordinated the "PALs" group, which was responsible for guiding service users through complex grievance procedures at the NHS and other organisations. I was also an active campaigner throughout my time in the role, I am particularly proud of the campaign I helped lead against stigmatization of men with mental health issues.

As a music facilitator at C-Live Music School, I was in charge of tutoring children aging from 6 to 17. My duties included planning lessons according to the curriculum for each age group, delivering lessons and leading ensemble performance groups of twenty or more children. I was involved in teaching musical theory and music reading as well as instrumental technique for the electric bass and electric guitar. As tutors, we were also required to perform a variety of pastoral functions. This is an aspect of the job that I particularly enjoyed. Teaching and mentoring young musicians continues to be a passion of mine and I continue to teach on a freelance basis.

As a freelance musician, I play bass guitar and double bass in many different professional ensembles ranging in genre from acoustic folk to Jazz to Pop. I have toured extensively in the UK and Europe, playing major festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival and most recently supporting Carole King at British Summer Time in Hyde Park as well as Tom Jones on tour. I have also been lucky enough to play at a number of iconic venues including Shepherd's Bush Empire and Brixton O2 Academy. Though my career as a freelance musician has been predominantly performance based, I regularly work in the recording studio with various signed acts. I also mix and produce work for a range of artists; most recently I mixed two recordings for Paradisia, which are to appear on Mahogany Sessions to be viewed by thousands.

I currently work as a label assistant at MRC. MRC provides record label services to music companies, artists and rights holders across a range of genres from world music to jazz. As well as providing traditional industry expertise, the majority of the team members that I work with have backgrounds in music technology, with specific skills in mobile and online distribution. As the team is small, I have taken on a wide variety of roles at MRC. I am involved in metadata and database management of new and existing artist profiles (using MS office packages and CRM database applications). This includes managing payee details and ensuring that all artists receive correct royalty and MCPS payments. i use this info to register products and recordings on myPPl and PRS. The metadata I create includes, genre details, artist and supporting artist details to ensure everyone is paid correctly. i use this data to register products and recordings to myPPL and PRS. This role requires strong attention to detail and there is no room for error. I am also involved in fixing, editing and resizing graphics for album art and artist profile pictures using Adobe Photoshop. My role at MRC also involves advising on sync briefs, promotions (including receiving confidential promo copies of upcoming releases) and office management. I am also increasingly relied upon to promote the business from a sales perspective and I have been asked to attend networking and industry events to raise MRC's profile and develop new customer relationships. I believe that this experience makes me particularly equipped to manage large workloads whilst multitasking and delivering to tight deadlines. The experience I have gained at MRC has given me a broader understanding of the digital music market including synchronisation, revenue streams, digital distribution and physical sales. In addition, As MRC's primary audio consultant, I am involved in some of the more technical aspects of the operation. In particular, I am in charge of re-mastering MRC's back catalogue using digital audio workstations (ProTools/Logic/Reaper). This has enabled me to utilise many of the skills that I developed during my music degree at Goldsmiths, University of London.
