This is a large 11-16 comprehensive school at the heart of its community, and part of a soft federation with our 7 nearest primary schools. Our February 2012 Ofsted report spoke of 'a harmonious community' where students 'enjoy coming to school'.
Attainment is rising: our headline figure of 5A*-Cs(EM) rose from 38% in 2010 to 53% in 2012, and our hard data for this year predicts over 60% for 2013, with a target of 70% for 2014. Our BSF new build was completed in 2011.
We are determined to provide as good a quality of education as at any school in the country, and to measure ourselves against the best. Our staff regularly make professional development visits to other schools as part of our Outstanding Practice Programme. Our students are friendly, courteous, motivated and have high aspirations. This role is vital to our improvement, and we will only appoint a candidate who we believe can make a substantial contribution to the school.
The Music Department is part of the Performing Arts and PE faculty and has, as part of our rebuilding programme, outstanding facilities. Our facilities include 8 practice rooms, full 32 track ProTools recording studio & two dedicated music ICT suites. The school has a history of producing high quality shows and performances and considers the performing arts as one of its key faculties in raising both the achievement of the pupils and the profile of the school. In addition to the classroom teachers, the department has a team of 10 well established 10 peripatetic staff plus a wide range of additional extra curricula groups. We offer both GCSE and Btec Music as part of our KS4 provision. In addition to this we also have year 7 and year 9 specialist music curricula on offer to our KS3 students.
