THE RESPONSIBILITIES:


The primary function of the Software Quality Assurance Specialist position is maintaining software quality within the Retail Technology department. The person in this role will be responsible for ensuring that standards, processes, and procedures are appropriate for each project and are correctly implemented. He or she will be expected to fill the key QA role as the rapidly growing Retail Technology department shifts to bring software development in-house; build up and establish an industry-standard, consistent test methodology; and serve as a QA Tester and coordinator on all testing activities for the Retail Technology department.

In the past, the Retail Technology department has outsourced formal QA processes; the shift to bring QA in-house represents a unique opportunity for a person looking to build experience towards a Senior QA/QA Manager position.  The person in this position will be expected to build our Software Quality Assurance operation from the ground up.  The position requires an analytical mind and great communication skills, as he or she will need to work effectively with technical and non-technical individuals.

Required Duties:


  • Write high level test plans from specifications documents.
  • Design, execute, analyze, and maintain test plans, and test cases implementing proven quality assurance practices.
  • Assist with project planning in providing test estimates based on use case/requirement documentation.
  • Generate test reports including results of testing and product stability, which include recommendations concerning release of product.
  • Coordinate and conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) efforts as required.
  • Development of systems for automated build, deployment, and system tests.
  • Work with Technical Support staff to reproduce customer-reported issues in a lab environment.
  • Maintain a QA lab environment with various operating systems and configurations.


Required Skills:


  • Bachelor's Degree inComputer Science or Equivalent.
  • Must be very computer literate with proficiency in all MS Office products.
  • 5-7 years of interactive, project management or engineering experience.
  • Excellent phone, writing and inter-personal communication skills.
  • Knows how to extract testable requirements
  • Can write a high level test plan
  • Knows the purposed and relative merits of various source code complexity rating methods
  • Working knowledge with testing tools such as xUnit frameworks, Framework for Integrated Tests(FIT), TestNG, JMeter, Testlink, and STAF
  • Working knowledge of automated software testing tools(e.g. Mercury, Rational, Segue, Compuware).

Desired Background:



  • 3+ years of experience in a Software Quality Assurance role.

  • 5+ years of experience in a software development organization.

  • 3+ years of experience using data testing and testing automation tools

  • Has achieved or is interested in a Quality Assurance certification.

  • Our existing technology stack is built using the platforms/languages listed here, experience is a plus:


    • Microsoft .NET Framework

    • C#/C++

    • Adobe Flex

    • ASP .NET

    • Javascript

Beneficial Skills:


The following skills are not required for the position but would significantly differentiate a candidate:



  • Internet site design, information architecture, usability and industry best practices.

  • Familiarity with data mining and analysis tools such as Crystal Reports, Crystal Info and Visual/Ad-hoc Query Builders.
  • Experience with data-centric distributed systems and/or knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL and OLAP techniques.
  • Data warehousing, data marts and report prototyping.
